(Coprinus comatus)
The mushroom that literally melts before your eyes.
Shaggy Mane is one of the easiest wild mushrooms to identify and one of the most exciting to grow. Famous for its tall, shaggy white caps and unusual habit of dissolving into black ink as it matures, this mushroom rewards growers with a delicate flavor and an incredibly short journey from garden to table.
Because Shaggy Manes don't store well, growing your own is often the only way to enjoy them at their peak.
🌱 Why You'll Love It
🍄 Unique mushroom that transforms into black "ink" as it ages
🥚 Delicious with eggs, breakfast dishes, and simple sautés
🌿 Excellent for compost-based cultivation
❄️ Fruits during cool weather when many other mushrooms slow down
👨🌾 Beginner-friendly and easy to recognize
